Social policy in India has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. There are range of issues which have been thought through in this book edited by Jean Dreze which covers health, education, food security, employment guarantee, social security pensions, social exclusions and inequality as a diverse discipline of topics to walk the reader into issues and concerns which govern the making of policies.

Quality of medical care, revealed preference for open defecation, pro-poor maternity benefit schemes, public distribution systems and how national rural employment schemes guarantee security to those who really need it the most.

This book is a scholarly read, not meant for a general audience but rather targeting social scientists, policy makers, the development sector representatives and for those interested to learn and understand the idea of India through policies.
